What are the top products to sell on eBay? This is impossible to answer; the reality is, people make 6 figures selling all kinds of items, whether they are sports cards, furniture, comic books, etc. Really, whatever you want to sell is fair game if there is a market for it.

Obviously, that’s a big IF. The key is to make sure there is a market before going to the trouble of selling anything. Not doing this step is one of the key reasons most people fail to make money.

Really, however, we are getting ahead of ourselves; even before you do your market research you want to be sure you can sell the product in the first place. Many people do their research in reverse order-they go to eBay pulse, find out the best products to sell on eBay, and then try and find a wholesaler who will let them sell their products.

The right way you want to do research is to just get a massive quantity of catalogs from wholesalers (some will only have online catalogs). Having the catalogs assures you that you will able to sell them and there’s no point in doing keyword research on an item you don’t even know if you can get your hands on in the first place.

To get the catalog just call up as many wholesalers as you can find and ask for their catalog. There are plenty of places to find wholesalers so I won’t cover how to here.

Don’t be picky

Get catalogs on as many different products as you can; you can determine if there is a market after wards. Don’t confine yourself to your interests like many people do.

A myth that can kill your business

A common phrase is “do what you love and the money will come.” This is false. You might love underwater basket weaving, but there probably isn’t much of a market for it on eBay.

Don’t worry about whether you have any interest in the item or not, because you very well might find that you end up making the most money with niches you couldn’t care less about. Are you going to turn down money just because you are selling something you don’t care about?

Only once you have the catalogs should you begin to do your research on them. For this you will probably want to use a paid tool like Terapeak (it’s only about $10/month) which will give you all the info you need on how well the item sells on eBay.

Pay particular attention to the percentage of the auction that sold in the niche, how many sold, and who the top sellers are so that you can model their auctions. These are to finding products to sell on eBay and becoming a huge home business success.
