How Does Affiliate Marketing Work For You and How You Can Make Money From It

May 20th 2009

If you’ve decided to finally jump into the Internet game with an eye towards grabbing a little cash from it, you need the answer to a simple question: How does affiliate marketing work? It can be answered easily enough, though the execution of an affiliate marketing plan is equal parts art and science.  For starters, affiliate marketing is all Internet-based. In it, a business (and it can be for just about anything) rewards an affiliate - you, in this instance - for getting the business a visitor or customer. This visitor or customer is brought to the business through the affiliate’s marketing efforts.

Rewards in affiliate marketing, in the form of commissions when a sale of merchandise is actually made, can be lucrative. Just the act of shepherding a visitor to the business, regardless of whether or not a sale is made, can sometimes result in a small “click through” payment, though in actual affiliate marketing this can be rare.

Affiliate marketing on the Internet is a large industry. In affiliate marketing, the affiliate will use one website to drive traffic over to another, where the sale can be made. Once it is, the commission is paid. Basically, it’s a form of online marketing, the same as any other non-digital/non-Internet form of marketing.

In affiliate marketing, there are techniques used to earn a profit. An affiliate marketer will first establish a website that has something to do with whatever it is that his or her merchandiser will be selling. If it’s performance golf clubs, the affiliate will design and set up a site that reviews these sorts of clubs. The site could also have a series of articles on a proper swing, or the care and upkeep of golf clubs. The affiliate will also be working hard to get his affiliate site “ranked” in all the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc.).

There are several different methods for moving high up - hopefully to one of the first three pages — in a search engine. One popular way is by article submission to article directories. The idea is to attract visitors who have read the articles to go to the site with the aim of getting them to eventually go over to the merchandiser site, where they’ll hopefully purchase those golf performance improvement clubs.

The best affiliate marketers use many different techniques for generating traffic to their sites and then moving that traffic onward. The Internet is filled with helpful “how to” guides on how to do just that. Read as much as possible and then you, too, may be able to succeed in the affiliate marketing game!

Want to Know What the 3 Fundamental Skills Needed For Affiliate Marketing Are?

May 18th 2009

As internet access becomes increasingly accessible to areas that previously were not connected to the World Wide Web, internet traffic is growing exponentially. With the increased traffic, it follows that the ways by which to make money online are mounting phenomenally.

Of the multitude of internet business opportunities, one of the fastest ways to get your feet wet in e-commerce is by engaging in affiliate marketing. It has undoubtedly become one of the more popular ways to make substantial online revenue. The fact that one can start out in this endeavor with no capital outlay accounts for its popularity. In fact, pretty much everything is handed to the novice affiliate. The product or the service is provided by the vendor. The affiliate marketer needn’t concern himself about writing sales copy as it’s already been done for him, nor does he have to occupy himself with payment processing or delivery. All he has to do is to pre-sell the product or service. If he’s done an effective job of it, once he directs a client to the vendor’s website, the client should be all set to click “Yes!” And the commissions come rolling in.

However, just because things have been made convenient, the novice affiliate must not fall into the trap of believing that it’s all so easy. Because it’s not. Certain skills are necessary to succeed in affiliate marketing. Without these skills, the neophyte entrepreneur runs the risk of expending his energy in promoting one product after the next, only to face disappointing results. Three skills are fundamental.

1. Market selection The first skill needed is the ability to select the right products to market. There must be a demand for the product you are promoting. You may believe in your heart of hearts that an item is the best product you’ve ever come across and it’s what’s going to save mankind from ruination, but if no one is looking for the product, if there’s no demand, then for your intents and purposes, it’s a dud. Aside from demand, you’ll want to look into the sales copy of the product. Does it convince? What kind of commission does the vendor offer? Is there a money back guarantee? These and other factors go into the selection of a product.

2. Traffic generation

Traffic is the lifeblood of internet marketing. Without traffic, your website will wilt like a month-old corsage. Traffic can be generated organically through methods such as article marketing, blogging, forum participation, social bookmarking, press releases, etc. Or you can opt to invest in pay-per-click advertising campaigns. Except for the pay per click, the other methods do not require investment in capital, but they do require an investment in time and effort.

3. Conversions You need to be able to make your client take the action you want him to. This is where building trust with a client comes in. Your client must believe that you know what you’re talking about and that you’re reliable. You must establish a sort of track record so that you are a credible source to him. Believing thus, he will be more likely to take the action that you have been leading him towards.

So that’s what it takes to succeed in your online business. The good news is that the resources needed to teach you how to become adept in these techniques are available and accessible over the internet. You CAN do it.
