What distinguishes the second version of the web from the first is often a matter of nuance and terminology. But if you do any sort of Internet marketing you will need to know what the term refers to and what it means to you as an online marketer.

Definitions disagree and sometimes they disagree as to even whether or not there is a “Web 2.0″. But those that do agree typically also agree on two major attributes: technology and collaboration. Web 2.0 differs from web 1 in that I is more of a conversation than it is a speech or a one way paper, and that will open up new methods of communication.

First comes the technology. Typically web applications have been hard coded and often rather plain applications that were clunky to use. They offered little in terms of formatting and insertion of graphics. Web 2.0 Applications, on the other hand, are much more rich in terms of user graphics and technology. These applications also differed from normal web apps in the past that only the owner of the content could modify it, whereas 2.0 Applications allow users to modify content that has been put up.

And that’s where the real definition of 2.0 comes into play. This is not to say that certain web apps before 2.0 haven’t had their characteristics of participation, but usually it was in a much more structured, top down manner. In this sort of web, users can not only put up their comments, but can even to a certain extent add to the information. This makes 2.0 apps far more of a discussion and less of a speech.

So what does that mean for you? As a marketer, it means that you can no longer just rely on static adds that you put up and leave. You have to be active in the conversation in forms, in wikis, and blogs. It also means that users will no longer be satisfied with plain-Jane manuscripts. They are going to want the Flash YouTube videos and slideshow presentations. And if they don’t find them from you they will go somewhere else.

Learning this techniques is key to keeping ahead of the pack, which is why you should seek out the information that will let you know how to use this technology. Choosing a website designer, to make my first website, was due to my being technology challenged, and without proper knowledge as to what I was getting into.  I still remain technology challenged, and the road has not been pleasant, but with fresh, innovative lessons, I have found true direction in making my websites.

Website expectation

The expectation was to find an affordable web designer, that could do all the tech stuff, so I could focus on writing content.  I had the design in mind, the colors, the format, the mission, and was ready to make the commitment of time and resource to achieve the expectations of my endeavor.  I would continue adding content, tips, facts, and articles at periodic intervals, and had expectations of adding a few tweaks, that were suppose to be no problem.

Web realities

I was working on a web-tv, more of a casual surfing keyboard, cast on the tv screen.  I started using the computer, but a mutual understanding in regards to the implication of my site was with ongoing discord.  I strived for my content to be perfect, so as to not need repeated revisions.  Cost was escalating with page cost and hourly cost, which seemed to take longer and longer.  There was project cost on top of it, appearing to be triple charges.  I dreaded her emails, and I grasped at indications that we might have some rapport, even a mutual understanding of the task at hand.

Sitebuilders, those innovative no HTML knowledge required website editors were not as assessable when I began, as they are now.  Of course it is likely, I just did not come across such a novel tool at the time.  I won’t say I became completely liberated, and even with a site builder, my endeavors are a bit basic, but that is fine.  It affords me to write, express, and seek the subtle interaction with my web visitors, through some unforeseen similar destination, and purpose.

It is about choice, full knowledge, and expectations.  From a foundation of personal resolve, all that is worth attainment, is a worthy endeavor.  Some endeavor may be a little more basic, but never no less sincere, and so are the confessions of the technology challenged.

Web sites come in all forms, sizes, and individual presentations, unique as the invitation of their mission.  With this ongoing quest to be original, unique, and productive, some basic website format and inspiration can accomplish your endeavors, with no technology required.

Pleasing format

A pleasing format, is not cluttered, abrasive, annoying or confusing.  Navigation should be easy to follow, consistent, and in full view, preferably  in the left column, or the top of the page.  Content should be broken up into blocks of text, paragraphs at 3 to 4 sentences, as most people are going to scan text for bits of information they find informative, interesting or entertaining.

Content begins with inspiration

If content is king, and we all agree, then inspiration is the foundation to build content into your aspirations.  Read, research, and be open to all avenues of ideas in conversations, forums, articles, and even movies.  Build on an idea, test the response to your ideas, give them time to grow, but know when to revise your presentation.

No technology required

With ease of use site builders, basic point and click editors, with new innovative tweaks, making a website is more assessable than ever, with no technology required.  Whether making your personal website, showcasing a project near and dear to your heart, incorporating  your personal endeavor into your business, or your online presentation, technology based programing is no longer a barrier.

Make it personal

When applicable, include a personal experience with the matter, product, venture and presentation at hand.  You don’t want to vent, or expose your inner soul, but some first hand experience, commitment, and sincerity expresses your rapport with your visitors’ concerns, problem, or manner of personal resolve.  You may share a common goal, and sense of value.

Perfection is in interpretation

Format need not be elaborate, but direct and basic, where your visitors will feel comfortable, find value, and a commitment of presence.  Ideas are made to test, and revise, as perfection in format and inspiration is in the interpretation of the beholder.  Update your site often, keep it active, your links working and your content relevant to the links that lead to your website, and you will have made a gesture as close to perfection as anyone dare to seek.
